Article 1
Purpose and Scope
The objective of this Directive is to ensure that electrical equipment placed on the market meets requirements providing a high level of protection of the health and safety of persons, domestic animals and property, while ensuring the functioning of the internal market.
This Directive shall apply to electrical equipment intended for use with a nominal voltage between 50 and 1000 V in alternating current and between 75 and 1 V in direct current.
Exceptions
Electrical equipment intended for use in an explosive atmosphere.
Electrical equipment for radiology and medical uses.
Electrical parts of elevators and hoists.
Electric meters.
Power outlets (plugs and sockets) for domestic use.
Electric fence controllers.
Radio interference.
Specialized electrical equipment, intended for use in ships, aircraft and railways, which complies with the provisions
security measures established by international organizations of which the Member States are members.
Evaluation kits, manufactured to order, intended for use by professionals exclusively at research and development facilities for such purposes.
