Scope of application
Area of application
1. This Regulation applies to machinery and the following related products:
a) interchangeable equipment;
(b) safety components; (c) lifting accessories; (d) chains, cables, and straps; (e) removable mechanical transmission devices. This Regulation also applies to partly completed machinery. For the purposes of this Regulation, machinery, related products listed in the first paragraph, and partly completed machinery shall be collectively referred to as "products falling within the scope of this Regulation."

2. This Regulation does not apply to:
a) safety components that are intended to be used as spare parts to replace identical components, and which are supplied by the manufacturer of the machinery, related product or partly completed machinery;
b) specific equipment for fairs and amusement parks;
(c) machinery and related products specially designed for use in a nuclear installation or
used therein and whose non-compliance with this Regulation may endanger nuclear safety
of said installation;
d) weapons, including firearms;
e) means of transport by air, water or railway networks, except for machinery installed on such means.

(f) aeronautical products, parts and equipment falling within the scope of Regulation (EU)
2018/1139 of the European Parliament and of the Council (21) and in the definition of machinery pursuant to this
Regulation, insofar as Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 covers the essential health and safety requirements
relevant safety measures set out in this Regulation;
g) motor vehicles and their trailers, as well as systems, components, separate technical units,
parts and equipment designed and manufactured for said vehicles, approved and included in the scope of
application of Regulation (EU) 2018/858, except for machinery mounted on that class of vehicles;
h) two- or three-wheeled vehicles and quadricycles, as well as systems, components, technical units
independent parts and equipment designed and manufactured for such vehicles, which are included in the scope of
application of Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, except for machinery mounted on such vehicles;
(i) agricultural and forestry tractors, as well as systems, components, separate technical units, parts and
equipment designed and manufactured for such tractors, which falls within the scope of the Regulation
(EU) No 167/2013, except for machinery mounted on such tractors;
j) motor vehicles intended exclusively for competition;
(k) seagoing vessels and mobile ocean-going units, as well as machinery installed on board such vessels or units;
(l) Machinery or related products specially designed and manufactured for military or police purposes;
(m) machines or related products specially designed and manufactured for research purposes for temporary use in laboratories;
n) mineshaft elevators;
o) machines or related products intended for lifting or transporting actors during performances
artistic;
(p) the following electrical and electronic products, insofar as they fall within the scope of Directive 2014/35/EU or Directive 2014/53/EU: (i) household electrical appliances other than electrical furniture, (ii) audio-visual equipment, (iii) information technology equipment, (iv) ordinary office machinery, except additive printing machines for the production of three-dimensional products, (v) low-voltage switchgear and control gear, (vi) electric motors; (q) the following high-voltage electrical products: (i) switchgear and control gear, (ii) transformers
